Mad river

Get Ready for Winter Steelhead 2022!

We are getting ready for our new winter steelhead season from late December 2022, to the end of March 2023.

Focussing on the north coast rivers in northern California and the southern coastal rivers in Oregon, we will be chasing these world class fish at any and every possible opportunity.

Not much has changed for this up coming season when it comes to “Bent Rods And Big Smiles”. We do have a new arrow in the quiver we would like to share with you all!! Lost Coast Sport Fishing has acquired the wild and scenic CHETCO RIVER PERMIT. Offering the whole river from the South fork to Social Security river bar, will create a world class experience.

We hope to see you all on the river and don’t forget to….

Eel River Fishing

IMG_2596
The rain is finally here!! The past few days has been a consistent steady rainfall. According to my local rain gage, its rained 1.5 inches and there is much more to come! There will be a lull mid week but around Thursday another storm is due to hit the North Coast.

The weather has had no effect on the fish coming into the river systems. This year the numbers and size are baffling in all the rivers I have fished. The fish are coming in all colors and sizes! The past week has and will have a everlasting effect in my memory for one of the most legendary fishing years I’ve experienced. I can’t tell you the last time the grade of fish has been so large. I feel without some of the fishing gear that Mad River Manufacturing has to offer, we would have not put together the past several epic days of fishing! Thanks MRMF staff.

Fishing hard the past week on the local rivers has been very productive! WE have had a great average in size and numbers. My biggest fish was in the mid to high teens! Getting geared up for the next fishing trip on Monday has never seemed to be so far away! My curiosity is eating away at me… I can’t wait!

For all the Steelhead junkies out there… It is game on!

Waiting for Rain

The fishing has slowed down at the moment in Northern California, and Southern Oregon! We are waiting for more rain to bring in new fish to the river systems. Douglas and Junction city on the Trinity river still has some decent Steelhead fishing. Most of the fish are coming on small nymphs, and egg patterns! The fish are slightly lethargic due to cold temperatures.
There is some weather in the forecast due to hit the coast mid week. Its hard to say what the weather gods have in store for us! If the weather cooperates we will see more King Salmon entering the Chetco,Eel,and the Van Duzen rivers systems. Early winter run Steelhead have already shown their presence in the Mad,and Eel rivers. Most of the Steelhead are in the 3 to the 4 lb. range! The low flow closures are in effect on the Eel,Van Duzen, and Mad rivers due to limited rainfall.
