Fishing on the Eel River the past few days has been slow to ok, but by no means is it over for the north coast this year! We are getting a few fresh fish, mixed with down runners.
I was fortunate to fish with a good client again, Jared who always seems to make the time go by with a good attitude and solid hook sets! He made the day early in the morning with a solid fifteen pound plus steelhead!
Weather is due to hit the coast on Wednesday. Precipitation levels are anywhere from one inch to three inches. I will be fishing through the weekend, or until the conditions push me off the river!

Fishing on the Chetco the past few days has been excellent with a lot of fresh fish pushing through the system. With some of the biggest crowds I’ve seen in quite some time, it didn’t seem to make a difference to the fish. Most boats were averaging six to ten opportunities a day! It would appear that a lot of the hatchery fish have shown up, mixed with a descent amount of wild fish. All the fish we caught were fresh dime bright winter Steelhead! Averaging six to twelve pounds and living up to the reputation of hard pulling Steelhead, the moral of the boat was at a all time high. You can’t beet warm January days for Steelhead fishing but the Pacific Northwest is in desperate need of some heavy precipitation. Looking back on years of weather notes, I’m optimistic that we still have the potential for good rain fall in the last bit of January and through the spring!
